Aspirin to prevent heart disease

Posted by Richard Campbell On September - 16 - 2009 1 COMMENT

The potential group prone to heart disease and stroke are over the age of 40 years, male, heredity genes, smoking, lack of exercise, obesity, diabetes, hypertension and under a lot of stress.

One cause of increasingly higher rates of death from heart disease is the lack of awareness and knowledge of most of the people about the importance of prevention of this disease early on. With a care and adequate knowledge, heart disease can be prevented.

Preventing heart disease with aspirin

The prevention of cardiovascular disease is divided into two, primary and secondary prevention. Primary prevention is the early prevention in individuals who have risk factors for cardiovascular disease but have not suffered cardiovascular events, whereas secondary prevention is done on individuals who have experienced cardiovascular events.

Aspirin was discovered 200 years ago and has been used as an antipyretic (fever-lowering drugs) and analgesics (pain). In the year 1973 it is established that aspirin contains Acetyl Salicylic Acid (ASA) which can reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke.

Acetyl Salicylic Acid (ASA) can be used as primary and secondary prevention of heart disease and blood vessels problems. ASA is recommended to be consumed by women at the age of more than 45 years, while men at 40 years. However, ASA can also be consumed by young people who have at least 1 risk factor as a precaution.

ASA affected platelets making it do not clot easily as well as working on the inner lining of blood vessels (endothelial) to produce vasodilator agent that can enlarged blood vessels.

The usage of low-dose ASA proved to lower the risk of ischemic stroke by 24%. It also reduce the risk of non-fatal stroke, non-fatal myocardial infarction (heart muscle damage) or death from cardiovascular disease in women aged 65 years and over by 26%.This is a findings obtained for Womens Health Study, the longest and largest studies ever conducted with low-dose ASA on 40,000 women aged 65 years and over who have no history of coronary heart disease or cerebrovascular (brain blood vessel disorder).

ASA can cause stomach irritation for some people. For these people they should choose enteric-coated ASA. This enteric-coated tablets will dissolve in the small intestine instead of the stomach as to not stimulate excessive stomach acid. ASA is also not recommended for patients with an ulcer intestine.

Cause of Heart Disease

Heart disease is a silent killer, dangerous and can move faster than you can imagine. So better armed yourself with knowledge to maintain your cardiovascular health.

Trivial symptoms.

Like in the movies, mostly heart attacks originated from the symptoms that seem trivial, such as pain in the chest, sometimes accompanied by fainting. This is true. So do not dismiss symptoms of chest pain attack.

Women have a different symptoms.

Cause of Heart Disease

Cause of Heart Disease

Do not assume that pain in the chest are the only sign that you are experiencing an attack. When a men or women feel pain or discomfort in one or both arms, back area, neck, jaw, or stomach, women will usually find that their breath are much shorter. In addition, women may experience symptoms of nausea and vomiting, accompanied by pain in their back and jaw area, while men do not have these symptoms.

Time is critical.

If you think that you might get an attack, do not wait until more than 5 minutes. Immediately go to the nearest hospital for first aid. If you are alone, then contact the ambulance. Never drive under such circumstances.

Cigarettes.

According to the American Heart Association statement, smokers have 2-4 times higher risk than non-smokers.

Not all fats are bad.

Dr. James Carlson, author of “Genocide: How Your Doctor’s Dietary Ignorance Will Kill You” says that diet practiced by society in general is misleading. Carlson believes that eating fatty foods does not always make a person fat. And cholesterol in food was never proven to increase the risk of heart disease. What is dangerous is food with saturated fat and contain fatty acids. Content of fatty acids is claimed to have even more evil than trans fats.

The enemy really is …

Carlson pointed out that the real cause of heart disease is actually a change in the sugar molecules into cholesterol that can clog arteries. In this case Carlson is not alone because a lot of research have proven that the liver transforms excess sugar into triglycerides, type of compounds that are harmful to the heart.
This helped explain why a diet low in sugar (though still eat meat) often show decreased levels of LDL and triglycerides.

Sometimes women feel pain on the right side of her chest during an attack. According to Carlson, this can sometimes leads to wrong doctors diagnose. Therefore, we need to equip ourselves with knowledge. Indeed doctors know more than we do about health sciences, but there’s nothing wrong telling them what you know or have read, because who knows it might help them in making the correct diagnosis.

Oral health is very influential in the heart.

Based on the statement of the American Academy of Periodontology, a person with gum disease  a 2 times more likely to suffer from coronary heart disease.

Robert H. Gregg, DDS, founder of Millennium Dental Technologies suggests that gum disease in the oral cavity increases the number of bacteria which in turn increases the risk of atherosclerosis (artery disorders) that often causes heart problems.

It is recommended to visit the dentist regularly to check and clean the teeth, brush your teeth after eating and before bed, and clean between your teeth with floss like doctor ordered.

If you are afraid with all that terrible dentistequipments, then try laser therapy which is more effective and painless, please call and ask your doctor or nearest hospital in your town.

ADHD Concentration Problem

People with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is usually very difficult to concentrate and very hyperactive. The reason is that the influence of chemical substances called  dopamine that plays an important role in regulating mood or feelings.

Dopamine deficiency in the brain explains the clinical symptoms of ADHD which can include lack of concentration and lack of motivation that can lead to obesity.  This shows that ADHD is not only abnormalities in attention or concentration system in the brain but also abnormalities in the central motivation and emotion.

ADHD Concentration Problem

ADHD Concentration Problem

In order to help people with ADHD in the teaching-learning process, it must be ensured that all kinds of school works are interesting and fun, so people with ADHD will be motivated to learn and stimulate in concentration and focus training. It is expected this method can be used as a new weapon in fighting against the condition.

This method was discovered after conducting research using positron emission tomography (PET), by measuring the levels of two proteins of dopamine receptors and dopamine transporters in ADHD that low levels in two brain regions which are the nucleus accumbens and the midbrain. Both sections are responsible for emotion and motivation stimulus such as acceptance and teaching.

Patients with ADHD can be treated with stimulant medications to improve the levels of dopamine in the brain. These stimulants can be used to create fun environment and do things that will attract attention, This will help stimulate the brain that have low dopamine levels.

Swine Flu

Swine flu virus that has been making the world panic today is a mixture of eight genetically different influenza viruses, not the ordinary H1N1 flu virus genetic.

“There was a reassortment in flu viruses, where a new swine flu came from pigs that have swine flu, bird flu and human flu. Pigs on the farm always got the flu every year, usually towards the end of fall, but the swine flu virus is different from the H1N1 ordinary swine influenza.Genes mutation occur on the normal H1N1, changing it into  a new H1N1 virus gene

Flu virus itself have manytype. The H3N2, H3N1, H1N1 in human, H1N1 in pigs and H5N1 in birds.

Swine flu can occur not only in temperate regions, cold, or high latitudes, infact the swine flu virus  living in the temperature optimum of 37 degrees Celsius.

Right now the spread of swine flu was heading the tropical regions. To anticipate the possibility of exposed cases of swine flu, people should avoid contact with a person who had the flu, using special masks, wash hands, and resting at home when having the flu.

Flu patients who are suspected to have swine flu should be isolated for seven days after initial symptoms. After seven days the patients can be declared cured and no longer contagious.

Until now there are no swine flu or bird flu vaccine that has undergone a clinical trials phase , the readily available Tamiflu is actually an antiviral drug and not a vaccine.

“It is difficult to create and produce a vaccine  so much at the time of a pandemic occurs thousands of people already infected

Although the disease is fatal, stroke can be prevented by adopting a healthy lifestyle and regular medical treatment.

There are stroke risk factors that can not be modified or is inherent according to family history, age, gender, and race.

However, there are other risk factors that can be modified such as medical problems and lifestyle, among which are high blood pressure symptomps, diabetes, heart disease, cholesterol, uric acid, obesity, smoking habits, lack of exercise, drugs, and blood disorders.

Patients with a stroke that caused damage occurred on the left of the brain will result in patient paralysis on the right side of the body, interference speak,  slow, and memory decline.  While right brain damage, would result in paralysis on the left side of the body, the orientation disorder, as well as memory decline.

Stroke can be prevented by controlling risk factors for stroke in everyperson. Hypertension or blood pressure sustained above the normal threshold is a major risk factor for stroke and causes occurred coronary heart disease. 50% stokerelated cases are caused by hypertension.

Hypertension often leads to complications that eventually lead to an interruption in the heart, stroke, kidney dysfunction, and arterial disease (peripheral blood vessels).

Primary cause of hypertension are hereditary and habits  (lots of salt consumption, alcohol, obesity, lack of exercise, smoking and stress), while secondary caused of hypertention are kidney conditions, hormonal problems, medications, and pregnancy. Almost 90% of those with hypertension caused by primary.
